Always ask traders, whether it be builders, electricians, plumbers or decorators, to provide you with a written estimate/quotation, whatever the size of the job you are planning to have carried out. Ask them to visit your property and supply a detailed list of what you require so that there are no problems moving forward.
It is a good idea to obtain 2-3 estimates/quotations which covers the cost of the materials and what you are going to or need to supply yourselves – such as paint (if you would prefer to purchase this yourselves).
Please remember that the cheapest price is not necessarily the best option.
As soon as you confirm with the contractor that you would like to proceed, ask them to fix a date in which they will be starting.
